Joel received his B.A. in economics from Goshen College in 1982. In 1988, he graduated from the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona, with a Master of International Management degree, focusing on international finance and the Japanese language. He was awarded his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Tennessee in 1999, where his primary area of study was strategic management.
Joel is conducting research in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship. Specifically, he wants to gain a better understanding of the innovation processes of small and medium-sized companies. While innovation management is currently his primary area of research interest, he is also exploring management issues related to strategic thinking and the influence of religion on the nature and scope of entrepreneurship. He is excited to have the opportunity to work with and study area entrepreneurs through his involvement with the Institute for Innovation and Economic Development.
